    • Yes, We will have company trucks at all four locations so we will have truck mechanics.

Trucks

  • What will happen with the current program “people net” we are using in our tractors?
    • As of 7-19-11 we do not have an answer regarding the People Net system.  We do know that the People Net system will be replaced by the Qualcomm MCP 200, which is the newest and coolest Qualcomm system.   Swift will rent the system to Owner Operators for $20 per week.   This cost includes installation, messaging and repairs that are not caused by your abuse or negligence.
  • Will Swift cover the cost for base plates?
    • Yes, We are base plated in Indiana
  • How will I be reimbursed for plates that I already purchased?

  • Will Swift accept our current DOT inspection on our tractor?
    • Yes, But you must get a new DOT inspection at a Swift authorized facility within 90 days of hire.  You must pay for your own DOT inspections.  If you have your inspection performed at a Swift shop at the same time as a B Service the inspection is included.   If you only want a DOT inspection at a Swift shop the charge is about $30.
  • If my tractor is more than 6 years old will Swift pay for my tractor to be inspected during this hiring process?
    • This is not a DOT inspection; this is an inspection to determine if Swift will make an exception for a truck that is more than 6 years old.  Swift will inspect your tractor and you will not be charged.   During the inspection we will focus on appearance, mechanical and safety factors.
  • If my truck is more that 6 years old how long will I have to get my truck ready from the time Swift takes starts working with this account?
    • If your truck passes inspection then we will work together on a plan, unique to your situation, for your truck.
  • Is Physical Damage Insurance required if my truck is NOT leased or financed by Interstate Equipment Leasing (IEL)?

  • Will my truck need a new DOT inspection before the start date of 9-12-11?
    • Yes, all trucks that will sign on with Swift must pass a DOT inspection conducted by Swift.  The deadline for the inspection is 9-10-11.   You will not be charged for the Swift DOT inspection.

    • No

(We would do a full verification process on the husband, the wife would not go thru the verification process.)
  • Can owner op's customize their truck numbers on their trucks if they are not tacky?

    • As part of the bid process that Swift and Greatwide participated in, Walmart changed the fuel surcharge formula to a $2.04 base and $.06 increments.   Swift will pass the Walmart fuel surcharge through to the owner operators.  For Greatwide owner operators this will be a reduction in the amount of the fuel surcharge you are currently receiving.   Swift has been operating under this new fuel surcharge rate for several years at 9 Walmart DC’s and the Swift owner operators are doing very well financially.  Plus we have we have a waiting list of owner operators hoping to join the fleet.
  • Who covers fuel tax and is there a fee for filing fuel tax?
    • The owner operator must pay the fuel tax, you will be operating under Swift's IFTA fuel account so you will be included on the Swift return. All fuel purchased using the Swift Comdata Card will be automatically added to your tax calculation. If you do NOT use your Swift Comdata Card for a fuel purchase, then you will need to send our fuel tax department a copy of the receipt so we can properly calculate your fuel bill/refund for the month.
  • Will I need to fill out a trip sheet to track mileage for fuel tax or does our Qualcomm track this for me?
    • You will not need a trip sheet. Fuel tax is calculated off your Qualcomm mileage.
